National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has rolled out a new feature on UPI Lite which will allow users to reload their UPI Lite balance automatically upon falling below a particular limit. The goal of this feature is to make small-value transactions more convenient. With UPI Lite, the account will be reloaded automatically with the amount the user chooses. This will make sure that the balance is topped up for fast payments below Rs 500 without needing to enter a PIN.The UPI Lite auto top-up function guarantees that customers always have enough money available for transactions by removing the need for manual reloading.UPI Lite's upper limit is set at Rs 500 as it is made for low-value transactions. However, the maximum balance in the UPI wallet can be Rs 2,000 and will allow a maximum of five top-ups per day.Add money to your UPI Lite wallet from the bank account and use the pre-loaded amount to pay through it. Google Pay, Paytm, PhonePe and BHIM are among some of the prominent UPI applications that allow its users to use UPI Lite. In a press release dated August 27, 2024, NPCI said, "With this new feature, the UPI Lite balance will automatically be reloaded by an amount chosen by the user, not exceeding UPI Lite balance limit, whenever the balance falls below a minimum limit set by them.""Members who are live on UPI Lite are requested to hereby note the changes and enable the feature by 31st October 2024," said NPCI.Issuer banks have received instructions from NPCI to activate UPI Lite's auto top-up feature. It is mandatory for banks to facilitate the establishment of UPI Lite requirements and approve withdrawals upon receiving requests from Payment Service Providers (PSPs) or applications.
