The Public Sector LIC said on Monday that its Bangladeshi office would be closed until August 7.
According to reports from Dhaka, security forces personnel and anti-government demonstrators engaged in violent altercations that resulted in the deaths of over 100 people in the previous two days in various districts of Bangladesh.
LIC said in a regulatory filing that “due to the prevailing socio-political situation in Bangladesh, the office of LIC of Bangladesh Ltd. will remain closed during the period from August 5, 2024, to August 7, 2024.”
According to LIC, the Bangladeshi government has imposed a three-day curfew from August 5, 2024, to August 7, 2024.
The contentious employment quota plan in Bangladesh sparked the student demonstrations that began last month. These days, the demonstrations have evolved into an anti-government uprising.
At Rs 1,110, LIC’s shares finished 6.10 percent lower on the BSE than they had at the previous close.
