Aadhaar card was introduced in India in 2010 and since then nearly 90 percent of India's population has Aadhaar card. The Aadhaar number is like a special 12-digit ID card that people in India use to prove who they are and where they live. Aadhaar Enrollment ID (EID) is 14 digits long and is currently issued to individuals undergoing the application process for an Aadhaar card. Hence, the latest update regarding use of Aadhaar Card Enrollment ID has been implemented. Earlier, people without Aadhaar card could use their enrollment ID generated while applying for Aadhaar card. Now this method is not valid for some transactions or processes. Use of Aadhaar Card Enrollment ID to get PAN Card in India is now discontinued. Without an Aadhaar card, an individual can no longer use his Enrollment ID to apply for a PAN card. Additionally, the earlier practice of using Registration ID to file Income Tax Return (ITR) has also been discontinued.
