According to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), over 5 crore children in Uttar Pradesh are yet to visit an Aadhaar enrolment centre to get their biometrics -including fingerprints and iris scans-updated.
At present, children aged between 5 and 15 are required to mandatorily update their biometric data twice -- once when they turn 5 and again when they turn 15. The window for free updation is two years. However, data shows in the 5-7 age group, biometrics is pending for 2.43 crore kids in Up, while the number for the 15-17 age group is 2.8 crore.
