There are frequent controversies about films. Sometimes the ruckus starts over the script, sometimes over the songs and sometimes over the clothes. To avoid getting into such trouble, production houses have now started keeping a legal team. Before making the film, the legal team reviews the script and in this way the makers censor the controversial part before any controversy arises. Recently, Karan Johar has also talked about this issue in an interview. He has mentioned online targeting and court cases on films. Karan says that Bollywood is a soft target, so it has become necessary to keep a legal team to avoid controversy.
Talking about self-censorship in an interview, Karan Johar says, “There is a fear of getting into some kind of legal trouble. Now we have a legal department in every institution. We do not want a court case, we do not want an FIR against us, so that we can avoid it. Every script, whether it is of Dharma Productions or our digital production Dharmatic Entertainment, first goes through legal censorship internally, only after that we move ahead and make the film.”
Was the legal team kept out of fear?
Karan says that we do not do this because we are afraid, we just do not want to take the stress and pressure of fighting a court case and do not want to spend energy on such things. During this, he said that I think those who protest are not the ones who really have an objection. These are the people who have the habit of making noise without any reason.
Karan further said, “Sometimes I feel that all this happens because Bollywood or Indian cinema is a soft target. There are many people, they say and do different things, but when we say something, we start appearing everywhere. We are targeted online. We are a soft target, this is the truth. We are such a soft power, which is a soft target. This is the irony of life.
Karan filed a petition in the court
Recently, Karan Johar himself had approached the court against the film 'Shaadi Ke Director Karan Auj Johar'. He had filed a petition in the Bombay High Court and appealed to put a permanent ban on the film and pass an order against the film's producers, writer and director.
