From the current financial year i.e. April 2024 to March 2025, crores of people will get subsidies on LPG cylinders. This subsidy will be Rs 300 per cylinder and its benefit will be available only on 12 cylinders. To join the government scheme, common people will have to join the Ujjwala Yojana. Let us tell you that more than 9 crore people are associated with the Ujjwala Yojana.
Ujjwala Yojana
Last March, the central government announced an increase of Rs 300 per cylinder in the subsidy given to poor women under the Ujjwala Yojana. This subsidy was earlier till March 2024, which has now been extended to March 31, 2025. The subsidy is paid directly into the bank account of the beneficiaries. In May 2022, the central government used to give a subsidy of Rs 200 per cylinder to the beneficiaries of the Ujjwala Yojana, which was increased to Rs 300 in October 2023. This subsidy is available on 12 LPG cylinders annually. 10 crore families in the country are getting its benefit.

Ujjwala Yojana was launched in 2016
The government started a scheme to provide clean cooking fuel LPG to rural and deprived poor families by giving LPG connections to adult women without any deposit amount. The government launched Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (LPG) in May 2016. Gas connections were given free to the beneficiaries but they had to first buy LPG gas cylinders at market price, later the government gave a subsidy of Rs 300.
