PhonePe, a leading digital payments platform, announced a partnership with LankaPay on Wednesday, May 15, to enable its users to make payments using Unified Payment Interface (UPI) across Sri Lanka.

During an event to commemorate the partnership, PhonePe revealed that its users can now utilize UPI to make payments at LankaPay QR merchants while in Sri Lanka.Who Can Avail The Facility?
These transactions will be facilitated by the UPI and LankaPay National Payment Network. This will allow users to make quick and secure payments without the hassle of carrying cash or dealing with currency conversions.In Which Currency Transactions Can Be Made?
The amount will be debited in Indian Rupees (INR), displaying the currency exchange rate.What Officials Said?
Ritesh Pai, CEO of International Payments at PhonePe, highlighted the unparalleled convenience this collaboration brings to Indian tourists. It enables them to use a familiar and secure payment method while traveling and making payments across LankaPay merchant points.Nandalal Weerasinghe, Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), expressed optimism about the partnership's ability to unlock new opportunities, enhance competitiveness, and benefit Sri Lankan merchants.
Santosh Jha, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, emphasized the significance of the UPI launch as part of a broader digital partnership between the two countries.
