While many cities now have gas pipelines, the majority of Indians still rely on LPG gas cylinders in their kitchen. To avoid hazards, a nationwide campaign has been launched by the govt to conduct basic safety checks for LPG domestic gas connections. This will be done free of charge by the government oil companies and their distributors.
Delivery Person Or A Mechanic Will Conduct This Check
As per an announcement from the All India LPG Distribution Federation, gas consumers can expect a visit from delivery personnel or mechanics within a specified timeframe. During these visits, they will conduct safety checks and provide education on safety procedures to consumers.
Chandra Prakash, President of the All India LPG Distribution Federation, announced that this initiative has commenced in Delhi and will soon cover all regions across the country. The goal is to reach the homes of all 30 crore domestic gas consumers within the next three to four months.

This Activity Is Not For Financial Gain But To Ensure Safety
"This safety check is being done without any financial gain, its only objective is to ensure that the consumer remains safe while using the LPG connection. This is also mandatory for taking claims on third party insurance in case of an accident", said Prakash.
Not Just Inspection, This Drive Also Aims At Educating The Customers
Whenever the delivery personnel or mechanic arrives at the consumer's residence for cylinder delivery, they will conduct a thorough inspection of eight safety rules and provide education to the consumer. This inspection includes checking all gas equipment to ensure there is no risk of leakage. As part of this safety protocol, if the orange-colored safety hose is deemed unfit for use, it can be replaced at a discounted price of Rs 150 for a 1.5-meter hose.

LPG Prices
Underscoring the utmost significance of consumer safety, it was emphasized that this initiative is driven solely by the commitment to ensuring consumer well-being with LPG connections, rather than financial motives. Additionally, compliance with these safety checks is crucial for eligibility to make claims on third-party insurance in case of any accidents.
What Are The Reasons Behind LPG Cylinders Related Accidents?
Accidents involving domestic LPG cylinders can occur due to a range of factors, including but not limited to the following: failure to periodically change the hosepipe, resulting in wear and tear; pilferage from cylinders; unauthorized transfer of LPG from domestic to non-domestic cylinders; use of non-approved or non-standard equipment; improper handling at the consumer's premises; failure of O-rings; leakage from LPG hoses; leakage from stoves; and the potential for LPG cylinder bursting due to extreme heat generated during fires caused by various other factors.
Did You Know Oil Marketing Companies Provide Insurance For LPG Consumers?
The Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) offer a comprehensive insurance policy known as the 'Public Liability Policy for Oil Industries,' which extends coverage to all registered LPG consumers under their purview. This insurance policy encompasses losses incurred from accidents where LPG serves as the primary cause of fire.

2. Medical expenses coverage of Rs 30 lakh per occurrence, with a maximum of Rs 2 lakh per individual
3. Property damage coverage of up to Rs 2 lakh per occurrence at the registered premises of authorized customers.
