Real Madrid have officially ended speculation over Antonio Rudiger’s future by confirming that the German defender has signed a one-year contract extension. The Germany international, who had initially sought a longer-term deal, agreed to follow the club’s policy and extend his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu until June 2027.
Los Blancos retain their defensive anchor
The 33-year-old centre-back has signed on for another twelve months, ensuring his presence in Madrid’s backline for the 2026–27 season. The Spanish giants were keen to keep hold of the former Chelsea star, particularly after parting ways with experienced defenders Dani Carvajal and David Alaba. Although Rudiger initially wanted a two-year extension, he ultimately accepted the club’s established rule of offering single-season renewals to senior players.
Bernabeu leadership confirms new deal
The club announced the successful completion of contract talks through an official statement, which Rudiger quickly shared on his social media accounts.
The official statement said: “Real Madrid CF and Antonio Rudiger have agreed to extend our player’s contract, which will keep him with the club until June 30, 2027.”
Rudiger reposted the announcement on his X account with the caption: “My club 🤍🤍🤍.”
Resilience pays off after injury setbacks
Since joining Real Madrid on a free transfer in 2022, Rudiger has become a key figure in the dressing room despite enduring a difficult season affected by recurring injuries. The defender previously underwent surgery and travelled to London for specialist treatment to address chronic pain that had limited his performance. His determination to continue playing through discomfort greatly enhanced his reputation among both the club hierarchy and supporters.
Fresh start under Mourinho’s leadership
Having regained full fitness and returned to form towards the end of the campaign, Rudiger now aims to put his injury troubles behind him. The commanding centre-back will look to solidify his starting position under newly appointed manager Jose Mourinho, known for his rigorous approach. In the immediate future, however, Rudiger’s focus remains on the 2026 World Cup, where Germany are set to face the Ivory Coast in their next group-stage fixture on Saturday.
