During the interaction, PM Modi appeared to refer to the immense popularity of the “Melodi” trend on social media, particularly Instagram.
Responding with humour, Meloni remarked, “Yes, we are the most famous couple on Instagram.”
The comment drew attention online and reignited discussions around the Melodi trend that has followed the two leaders for several years.
The term “Melodi” is a combination of the surnames Modi and Meloni. It emerged as a social media trend in 2023 after Meloni shared a selfie with the Indian Prime Minister during the COP28 Summit in Dubai.
Posting the image online, she wrote: “Good friends at COP28 #Melodi.”
The hashtag quickly became a viral sensation, inspiring memes, fan edits and humorous posts across social media platforms. Since then, nearly every public interaction between the two leaders has generated renewed interest in the trend.
PM Modi gifted Melody to Meloni in RomeDuring PM Modi’s visit to Rome last month, he gifted Meloni a packet of Melody toffees, a gesture widely seen as a playful nod to the “Melodi” phenomenon.
In a video shared online, Meloni thanked the Indian Prime Minister and said, “Prime Minister Modi brought us a gift…very, very good toffee.”
The clip quickly went viral, attracting millions of views and reactions across social media.
While the G7 Summit focused on major global challenges, the light-hearted exchange between PM Modi and Meloni once again demonstrated the enduring popularity of the Melodi trend, which continues to attract attention far beyond diplomatic circles.
