The Bharmour Unit of the Pensioners’ Welfare Association held its monthly gathering on Tuesday at Chaurasi Hotel, presided over by Unit President Dheeraj Thakur. A significant turnout of pensioners participated, engaging in comprehensive discussions regarding welfare, social issues, regional development, and matters of public interest. The assembly passed several crucial resolutions, urging governmental and administrative action.

Members highlighted the importance of retired employees, who have dedicated their careers to serving the nation across various sectors. They emphasized that ensuring the welfare, dignity, and necessary facilities for these individuals should be a top priority for the government. The association called for the prompt resolution of long-standing demands.

The meeting also brought attention to the need for issuing Senior Citizen Identity Cards, which would facilitate easier access for elderly citizens to government programs and services. Members urged the administration to streamline and hasten this process.

Concerns regarding escalating inflation and the persistent rise in essential commodity prices were voiced, posing significant challenges for pensioners reliant on fixed incomes. The association advocated for effective price control measures to alleviate the burden on the public, particularly senior citizens.

Discussions also covered agricultural and horticultural challenges, with members noting the struggles faced by farmers and orchardists in remote areas like Bharmour in marketing their products. They called for improved arrangements for storage, transportation, and marketing to ensure fair compensation for farmers’ efforts.

Additionally, the association stressed the necessity of enhancing basic services such as healthcare, education, drinking water, roads, and communication in remote regions, where residents still face difficulties in accessing essential services.

Speakers emphasized the vital role of senior citizens in society, advocating for their experience to benefit the community and younger generations. Pensioners were encouraged to engage actively in social initiatives.

In his closing remarks, President Dheeraj Thakur expressed gratitude to all members for their involvement and assured that the association would persist in its efforts to protect the interests of pensioners and address their concerns. The resolutions adopted during the meeting will be submitted to the relevant departments and administration for swift action.

Notable office bearers in attendance included Vice President Chain Singh Thakur, General Secretary Krishna Thakur, Treasurer M.R. Patial, Senior Vice President Jai Krishan, along with Bhagat Ram, Pyar Singh Chadak, Bakil Bhardwaj, and Jagdish Chand.
