Fans of the Disney+ series Ahsoka will have to wait longer than expected for its second season, with the show now confirmed to return in early 2027 after initially being expected before the end of 2026. Alongside the delay comes news of a significant cast change that has added a fresh layer of discussion around the upcoming season.
Claudia Black, who portrayed Mother Klothow in Season 1, has confirmed she will not be returning for the second installment. In a candid interview with Bleeding Cool, Black explained that her departure came down to a pay dispute with Disney, saying the studio was unable to meet her salary requirements as a single mother with financial responsibilities in Los Angeles.
“They picked up Season 2, they picked me up with it, and then Disney, which is structuring things differently these days, could not pay me what I needed to be paid as a single mother to keep all my responsibilities going at home in Los Angeles, because they were filming in London,” she said. “It was not something that I could make happen, and therefore, I had to bow out for Season 2. It was very sad for me.”
Her exit is not the only change in the cast. Season 1 starred Rosario Dawson, the late Ray Stevenson, and Ivanna Sakhno. Sakhno is confirmed to return for Season 2, while Rory McCann has been brought in to replace Stevenson, who passed away after the first season concluded.
The storyline for Season 2 remains largely under wraps, leaving fans with few details about what direction the show will take when it eventually arrives.
The news comes as Star Wars continues to expand its presence across both streaming and cinema in 2026. The Mandalorian and Grogu brought the franchise back to the big screen for the first time in years, though its box office performance has been described as underwhelming despite the renewed attention it generated among fans.
For Ahsoka viewers, the combination of a delayed release, a notable cast departure, and limited story details means the wait for Season 2 carries more uncertainty than enthusiasm. Whether the changes ultimately serve the show well remains to be seen when it finally arrives in 2027.
