TRIBUNFLORES.COM, MAUMERE – In the heart of Ili Hamlet, located in Kokowahor Village, Kangae Subdistrict, Sikka Regency, local residents brightened up a quiet evening by hosting a communal viewing of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The public viewing event took place at the home of resident Patris Siga.

According to TribunFlores.com’s observation on Monday night (June 15, 2026), dozens of spectators gathered on the terrace of Patris Siga’s house, their eyes fixed on the thrilling match between Japan and the Netherlands.

The excitement reached its peak as the first half ended, when the spectators sat together, analysing and predicting the outcome of the second half. At that moment, both teams were still level with a score of 2-2.

Some children, unable to stay awake through the night, fell asleep while waiting for their favourite teams to play.

The lively viewing was steeped in a warm sense of community. Local delicacies such as “Lawar Padu Puhun” (a dish made from young papaya leaves) and corn rice were served to accompany the football celebration.

Host Patris Siga prepared the setup using simple equipment. He used a white banner as a screen, paired with a projector. To ensure the commentator’s voice could be clearly heard, he connected the audio to a small speaker system.

Speaking to TribunFlores.com, a local resident named Faustinus said he attended the event because of his love for the World Cup atmosphere, though he did not support any particular national team.

“I’m watching simply because I enjoy football,” he said.

Another viewer, Emiliano Leti, shared that he was impressed by the style of play from the Dutch side. In his opinion, with their strong performance and tactical discipline, the Netherlands could win the 2026 World Cup.

“But I like Spain more, since my favourite club is Barcelona. Most of the Spanish national team players come from Barca,” Emiliano Leti explained.

The public screening has been held every night since the start of the 2026 World Cup, and participation is free of charge for all residents. (moa)
