New direction of women’s journey
Nowadays women are eager to live on their own terms and go out to explore new places, due to which the trend of traveling alone is increasing rapidly. According to a report, bus travel between cities for women has increased by 136 percent between 2019 and 2025. This increase is almost double the 72 percent increase in total passengers. Now one in every three bus passengers is a woman, whereas in 2019 this figure was 23 percent, which has now increased to 33 percent.
Solo journey of youth
Young girls aged 14 to 29, called Gen-ji, are at the forefront of these travelers. 60 percent of the total female passengers belong to this age group. Among women traveling alone, 68 percent are youth.
Increasing trend even in small cities
This change is not limited only to big cities, but women from small towns are also joining this trend. 68 percent of women traveling by bus come from small towns. Women from states like Assam, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Telangana, Puducherry and Arunachal Pradesh are preferring solo travel. Today’s women travelers are conscious about their safety and convenience. About 62 percent of women book their travel at least a day in advance. Giving priority to safety, 47 percent women choose safe mode for themselves.
influence of social media
Social media has promoted the trend of traveling alone. People are getting inspired by seeing pictures and videos to travel, due to which the fear of going out alone has reduced. Apart from this, the facility to book hotels and tickets on mobile has also made traveling easier. People now want some respite from their busy lives and are preferring to travel alone for new experiences.
