Samsung is expected to unveil its Galaxy Z Flip 8 next month at a Galaxy Unpacked event, potentially on July 22. Samsung is said to use a dual-chip strategy for its upcoming foldable phone. The company packed its in-house Exynos 2500 chipset in last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 7, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is likely to ship with a Snapdragon chipset in all regions.

Regional chipset split for Galaxy Z Flip 8

As per a post on Naver (Korean) by tipster Lanzuk, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 8 could run on either the Exynos 2600 or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxydepending on the market. The foldable is said to launch with an in-house Exynos chipset in South Korea and select European markets. Markets like Japan and several other global markets are tipped to get the variant with the Snapdragon chipset.

Why Samsung is using dual-chip strategy

According to leaker Lanzuk, Samsung will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in the Galaxy Z Flip 8 alongside Exynos 2600 because Samsung’s chip is “expensive,” while Qualcomm offered Samsung a “favorable price.” The Exynos 2600 uses a 2nm processmaking it advanced but costly to produce.

Expected launch timeline

The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is going to be unveiled later this summer, with a special Unpacked event currently rumored to take place on July 22. Pre-orders will likely open that same day, and the phone itself will likely release roughly two weeks later — around August 5.
