Sweden and Tunisia are set to lock horns in their Group F clash at the 2026 World Cup in Guadalupe, Mexico. The Swedes, determined to make up for missing out on the 2022 tournament, will be looking to start strongly. With the formidable attacking partnership of Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres, Sweden are expected to go into the match as favourites. But who will be the referee overseeing this crucial encounter?
Argentinian referee Yael Falcon will be the man in charge for this fixture. Falcon, a well-known figure in officiating circles, has climbed through the ranks in Argentina and gained valuable experience on the international stage. He has previously refereed in World Cup qualifiers and the most recent Copa America tournament.
Assisting Falcon on the touchlines will be his compatriots Maximiliano Del Yesso and Facundo Rodriguez, completing an all-Argentinian trio for the match.
The fourth official for the game will be Juan Gabriel Calderon from Costa Rica. Calderon is no stranger to high-level football, having officiated in the CONCACAF Gold Cup and several international qualifiers. His appointment as a central referee in this World Cup marks a milestone, as he becomes the first Costa Rican referee to take such a role since the 2002 World Cup held in South Korea and Japan.
Joining the officiating team as the reserve assistant referee is Calderon’s fellow Costa Rican, Juan Carlos Mora, who will provide additional support on the sidelines.
Overseeing the match from the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) booth will be Juan Lara from Chile. Assisting him will be Uruguayan official Antonio Garcia, while additional support will come from Hernan Mastrangelo. Mastrangelo, who has been on FIFA’s list since 2023, has worked on major competitions including the Copa Libertadores final and the 2025 Club World Cup.
With such an experienced team of officials, both Sweden and Tunisia can expect a fair and well-managed contest as they battle for vital points in their World Cup campaign.
