Guwahati, June 14: Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, suggested on Sunday that a notable international figure might accompany Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his upcoming visit scheduled for July 1 to 3.

During a live social media session lasting 24 minutes, Sarma expressed that these three days could mark a significant moment in Assam's recent history if the visit occurs.

"The initial days of July could be pivotal for Assam. Thanks to Prime Minister Modi's efforts, we might have the chance to welcome a prominent international guest," Sarma stated.

While he noted that no formal announcement has been made yet, the Chief Minister mentioned that preparations are already in progress.

"Although it hasn't been officially confirmed, we are optimistic about Prime Minister Modi's visit during this period, and there could be a well-known international dignitary joining him. Hosting such a guest would be a remarkable opportunity for Assam," he remarked.

These comments arise amid speculation regarding a potential visit from Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, although neither the central government nor the Assam administration has verified any such plans.

Sarma indicated that the state government has initiated beautification and infrastructure projects in Guwahati in preparation for the visit.

"We have commenced preparations and beautification efforts in the city. I urge the public to support us so that Assam can showcase its hospitality to the world," he added.

Recognizing the disruptions caused by the ongoing projects, the Chief Minister extended his apologies to the residents.

"Preparing a city for an event of this magnitude may lead to some public inconvenience. I apologize for that," he stated.

He also reaffirmed the government's dedication to preserving Assamese identity and fostering development.

"For us, Assam's culture and identity are not just political slogans. We will persist in our efforts for Assam and its people without wavering from our responsibilities," he emphasized.

Earlier that day, Sarma inspected various sites in Guwahati to assess infrastructure initiatives, public amenities, and ongoing development projects.

He highlighted the government's commitment to enhancing higher education and healthcare facilities throughout the state.
