Hollywood icon and Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds went through a demanding journey involving planes, trains, and cars to witness Canada’s historic opening game at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. A passionate football fan, Reynolds made sure he was present to cheer for his homeland, joining thousands of fans who packed the Toronto Stadium to mark a momentous occasion in Canadian football history.

Reynolds, known for his dedication both on and off the screen, travelled across North America using various means of transport to reach Toronto in time for Canada’s first Group B clash against Bosnia-Herzegovina. The hosts found themselves trailing in the first half after Jovo Lukic headed home for Bosnia-Herzegovina. But substitute Cyle Larin came off the bench to score a dramatic late equaliser, sparking wild celebrations as Canada secured a 1-1 draw — their first-ever World Cup finals point.

Following the thrilling match, the Deadpool & Wolverine star expressed his joy and pride on social media, sharing glimpses of his journey and reflecting on the electric atmosphere inside the stadium.

He wrote: “I was not gonna miss this match. Planes, trains, automobiles to get here but completely worth it. Toronto showed up. Canada showed up. One of the greatest atmospheres the sport has seen. So proud of @teamcanada @fifaworldcup @canadasoccer.”

The equaliser not only secured a valuable point but also ended Canada’s painful run of six straight World Cup defeats, stretching back to the 1986 and 2022 editions. Southampton striker Larin turned super-sub hero, twisting past his marker to score just two minutes after coming on. His goal set off jubilant scenes across the country and gave Canada their first-ever World Cup finals goal on home soil.

With the tournament now underway, Canada will look to build on this positive start as they continue their Group B campaign. The team next faces Qatar on June 18 before concluding their group stage fixtures against Switzerland six days later. To progress to the knockout rounds, Canada will need to tighten up defensively and avoid conceding early goals — lessons that could prove crucial in their quest for success on home turf.
