Bangladesh's captain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, was admitted to the hospital for monitoring after experiencing a concussion during his team's remarkable ODI series-clinching win against Australia in Dhaka. The all-rounder was hit on the side of his helmet by a bouncer from Riley Meredith during Bangladesh's innings in the second ODI on Thursday, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

The incident took place in the 34th over when Mehidy fell to his knees after the impact. Team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan assessed him on the field, and the Australian team doctor also participated in the evaluation. A stretcher was brought onto the field as a precautionary measure. Despite showing signs of distress and reportedly vomiting during treatment, Mehidy opted to continue batting. His resilience was crucial as he finished unbeaten on 22, helping Bangladesh secure their first-ever ODI series victory over Australia with a six over fine leg.

"Mehidy Hasan Miraz suffered a concussion during the match today," stated Bangladesh team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan after the game, according to ESPNcricinfo. "He continued to play after being evaluated on the field. We have sent him to the hospital for further assessment and general observation. He will remain there for the next 24 hours."

Team officials confirmed that Mehidy is out of danger but will continue to be monitored. In his absence, vice-captain Najmul Hossain Shanto represented the team during the post-match presentation.

Earlier in the match, Bangladesh's bowling attack dismantled the Australian lineup after the visitors chose to bat first. Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman quickly reduced Australia to 0 for 3. However, a century partnership between Marnus Labuschagne and Xavier Bartlett helped stabilize the innings, leading Australia to a total of 187 for 8 in a rain-shortened 42 overs.

Chasing a revised target of 192 in 41 overs, Bangladesh faced an early challenge but received significant contributions from Soumya Sarkar (42), Najmul Hossain Shanto (41), Towhid Hridoy (40 not out), and Mehidy. The hosts successfully reached their target in the 35th over, marking a historic series victory over one of the most successful ODI teams in cricket history.

The third and final ODI is scheduled to take place in Dhaka on Sunday, followed by a three-match T20I series in Chattogram.
