England skipper Harry Kane believes that the upcoming World Cup campaign across the United States, Canada, and Mexico represents ‘probably the best opportunity’ of his career to finally win football’s ultimate prize.

Kane heads into the tournament after a sensational season with Bayern Munich, where he netted 61 goals and provided seven assists. His performances led the German club to victories in both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Cup, putting him firmly in contention for the Ballon d’Or. However, maintaining that momentum through a successful World Cup run will be crucial for his chances.

At 32, Kane’s focus is on guiding the Three Lions to end six decades of disappointment and secure another major international title, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of England’s famous 1966 World Cup triumph.

Speaking to ITV, Kane acknowledged that this could also be his final World Cup appearance. “It could be your last because you never know what happens in football,” he admitted. “You know what I’m like, I want to keep playing for a long, long time. I feel in my prime, fitter than ever, the hunger is still there — but it could be my last.”

The striker continued: “The World Cup, for me, is the pinnacle of any footballer’s career. This is my third tournament now, and given the form I’m in and the season I’ve just had, it’s probably the best shot I’ll ever have at winning it.”

When asked about the perception that England depend too heavily on him for goals, Kane responded with composure. “I think any top striker has that expectation to deliver goals,” he said. “You see it with Erling Haaland for Norway or Kylian Mbappe for France — when you’re the main goalscorer, the team looks to you to find the net. That’s not necessarily a negative thing.”

He further emphasised the depth of the current England squad. “We’ve got goals coming from different areas of the pitch. If you look at our squad, we’ve got proven winners throughout — most of the players have enjoyed successful seasons, lifting trophies with their clubs, and that’s a huge advantage.”

Concluding on a determined note, Kane added: “People might say there’s extra pressure on me, but that’s something I’ve dealt with throughout my entire career. It’s been 60 years since we’ve lifted a major trophy in an England shirt; we’ve come incredibly close in recent years. Now, it’s time to finally cross that finish line.”
