Sawan Month 2026: The month of Sawan has been dedicated to Mahadev, the god of gods. Worship of Mahadev in this month is considered especially fruitful. Fast is observed every Monday in this month. Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva is performed. Monday has special significance in Saavan. There is a religious belief that by worshiping Shiva and doing Jalabhishek in Sawan, one gets his special blessings. According to Drik Panchang, this year the month of Sawan will start from 30th July. This holy month will end on 28th August on the day of Sawan Purnima.
According to mythological beliefs, in the month of Sawan, Lord Shiva took the poison that came out of the churning of the ocean in his throat. Due to which the heat in his body started increasing. Then all the Gods and Goddesses offered water to Mahadev to cool him down. Since then the tradition of offering water to Shiva started in Saavan. This year there will be four Mondays in Saavan. These Mondays will fall on 3rd August, 10th, 17th and 24th August, but apart from this, there are some special dates in the month of Sawan, on which performing Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva will give double the virtue.
Important dates of Sawan
Som Pradosh Vrat
One of the most important dates of Sawan 2026 will fall on 10th August. This day will be the second Monday of the month of Sawan. There will also be a coincidence of Som Pradosh fast on this day. This rare coincidence is especially auspicious for Jalabhishek and Shiva worship. On this day, all the wishes of the devotees are fulfilled by offering water, milk and Belpatra to Lord Shiva.
Sawan Shivratri
This year, Shivratri of Saavan month is going to be celebrated on 11th August. Shiva worship on this day gives equal results as the worship done on Mahashivratri. According to religious beliefs, performing Jalabhishek on this holy day removes obstacles in marital life and brings happiness and peace in life.
Hariyali Teej
The festival of Hariyali Teej is going to be celebrated on 15th August. It is considered an important day of the month of Sawan. This festival is considered a symbol of the difficult penance that Goddess Parvati did to get Mahadev as her husband. There is a religious belief that by offering water to Lord Shiva on this day, one gets the desired life partner.
Nag Panchami
Nag Panchami will fall on 17th August during the month of Sawan. Nag Devta is worshiped on this day. It is believed that worshiping the snake wrapped around the idol of Lord Shiva removes fear.
Bhaum Pradosh Vrat
Bhaum Pradosh Vrat will be observed on 25th August in the month of Sawan. By worshiping Lord Shiva on this day, one gets freedom from difficulties.
Purnima and Rakshabandhan
The final of Sawan 2026 will be on 28th August. On this day, the festival of Purnima of Sawan month and Rakshabandhan will be celebrated. It is believed that by performing Jalabhishek on the last day of the month of Sawan, devotees receive special blessings of Bholenath.
