Liverpool’s Federico Chiesa Set for Summer Exit Amid Serie A Interest: Report

Federico Chiesa’s stint at Liverpool seems to be nearing its conclusion, as reports suggest the Italian winger is poised to depart Anfield this summer.

The Italy international joined Liverpool in the summer of 2024 as the only signing made during Arne Slot’s debut campaign — a season that ended with the Reds lifting the Premier League trophy.

However, Chiesa struggled to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup. He was limited to just nine starts across 50 appearances in all competitions, contributing only five goals during his time on Merseyside.

His most notable strikes came in the 2025 Carabao Cup final defeat against Newcastle United and in the opening-day victory over Bournemouth that kicked off Liverpool’s title defence.

Speculation about a return to Serie A first surfaced as early as January, when reports in Italy claimed Juventus were open to negotiating a deal to bring their former forward back to Turin.

Although that transfer never came to fruition, Chiesa has been open about his disappointment at not receiving consistent first-team opportunities and is eager to reignite his career elsewhere.

The winger, who previously starred for Juventus and Fiorentina, is reportedly seeking a discussion with new Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola after the club’s pre-season tour of North America wraps up at the end of July to determine his future.

In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Chiesa admitted, “If I don’t find consistency in the Premier League, I’ll have to look elsewhere. I barely played in my first year at Liverpool, and last season was much the same. I’ll go on the training camp in the US, then I’ll talk to the club and the new manager, Iraola, and we’ll see.”

Sources close to Liverpool suggest a departure is already on the cards. Well-known Liverpool journalist David Lynch told Anfield Index, “He’ll go [in the summer], and I think he’ll always be remembered quite warmly by Liverpool fans. He always gave his best and was well-liked around the club for his personality — a good guy — but it just hasn’t worked out for him.”

At 28, Chiesa’s next move appears to be a return to Serie A, where he first made his name with Fiorentina, following in the footsteps of his father, Enrico Chiesa.
