Mary Earps has officially confirmed her exit from Paris Saint-Germain, with the former Manchester United and England goalkeeper expected to make a return to the Women’s Super League (WSL) in the coming weeks.
The 33-year-old will leave PSG when her contract expires on June 30, ending a two-season spell in the French capital. Reports suggest that Michele Kang’s ambitious London City Lionesses are leading the race to secure her signature as she looks set to return to English football.
Farewell to Paris
Earps joined the French club in the summer of 2024 and has since been one of the standout names in the women’s game during her two-year stay in the top flight. Over her time with PSG, she made 57 appearances and played a key role in guiding the team to a third-place finish last season. Despite her accomplishments in France, the veteran goalkeeper is ready to embark on a new challenge.
Earps reflects on her journey in France
In a farewell message shared through PSG’s official channels, Earps expressed heartfelt appreciation for her time in Paris. She said: “It’s been a crazy, great experience. I’d call it great because I’m leaving with fantastic memories. I’ve met some amazing people, trained at a world-class facility, and played at Parc des Princes. The experience has helped me grow both as a player and as a person. In life, all you can ask for is to keep improving and learning, and that’s what I’ve tried to do every day.”
Continuing her emotional goodbye, Earps reflected on the personal and professional milestones she achieved at PSG: “I’ve had the privilege to play with incredible players from across the world. I travelled to Africa for the first time for the league cup final. There have been so many firsts on the pitch, and off the pitch, I’ve had unforgettable experiences here in Paris. I’m leaving with my heart full and feel truly grateful and lucky to have had such a wonderful time here.”
Return to WSL with London City Lionesses on the horizon
With her PSG contract set to expire at the end of June, Earps will become a free agent and appears increasingly likely to join the London City Lionesses. As reported by The Independent, the WSL club, owned by American businesswoman Michele Kang, has been making waves with its ambitious plans and growth strategy.
Following a promising debut season in the WSL that saw them finish sixth, adding a player of Earps’ calibre would be a major coup for the London side. Her signing would underline the club’s intent to challenge the established hierarchy and become a genuine force in the league.
Continuing her legacy after Manchester United
Before her move to France, Earps enjoyed a remarkable five-year spell at Manchester United, where she cemented her status as one of the modern greats of English football. A key figure in the Red Devils’ rise, she played a crucial role in their historic Women’s FA Cup triumph — the club’s first major trophy. Her leadership, consistency, and passion made her a beloved figure among the fans at Leigh Sports Village.
On the international front, Earps earned 53 caps for England, becoming one of the most capped goalkeepers in the nation’s history. She played an instrumental part in the Lionesses’ memorable Euro 2022 victory and their World Cup final run in 2023. Although she stepped away from international football ahead of England’s European Championship title defence, her anticipated WSL comeback is expected to be one of the major highlights of the upcoming transfer window.
