Search Initiated for Nancy Guthrie

A volunteer organization in northern Mexico has commenced a significant search for Nancy Guthrie, following an anonymous tip suggesting that the missing grandmother from Tucson may have been buried near the US-Mexico border. As reported by a local newspaper, the group known as Buscando Corazones Nogales, which specializes in locating missing individuals, acted on the information that Guthrie's remains could be found in an unmarked grave close to a stream in the Mariposa region, located northwest of Nogales, Sonora.

Nancy Guthrie, aged 84 and the mother of NBC anchor Savannah Guthrie, vanished from her residence in the Catalina Foothills area of Tucson during the early hours of February 1. The authorities are treating her disappearance as a potential abduction, but no arrests have been made thus far.

Search Targeting Previously Identified Grave Sites

Ramona Guadalupe Ayala Ortiz, the leader of Buscando Corazones Nogales, stated that they received a call indicating that Guthrie's remains were located in the Mariposa area. "We got an anonymous tip that the woman’s remains were in a grave over a stream in the Mariposa area," Ayala Ortiz informed the local media.

Volunteers began their search in an area where the organization had previously uncovered 25 unmarked graves in past operations. This search was conducted in collaboration with the Sonora State Commission for the Search of Missing Persons, with local authorities providing security.

Ayala Ortiz noted that the area had a history of grave discoveries. "We started exploring this area and found the first four bodies; however, we noticed signs indicating there could be more buried there, so we coordinated with another group in the city that recently reported several positive findings," she explained.

Despite the thorough search efforts, no remains associated with Guthrie were discovered. Organizers plan to continue investigating the anonymous tip and may conduct further searches in the area. Over four months since Guthrie's disappearance, investigators have yet to identify any suspects or reveal significant leads. Law enforcement continues to solicit information from the public, while Guthrie's family has urged anyone with relevant details to reach out to authorities. The search organizers have stressed that the anonymous tip remains unverified, and the lack of findings does not eliminate the possibility of future search operations in the vicinity.
