Pok Protest: There is unrest in Pakistan occupied Kashmir for the last three days. After the ban on People’s Action Committee, thousands of people have taken to the streets. The Pakistan government has used all its might to suppress the protests. Four policemen and seven civilians have been killed in the violent clashes, and 70 people are reported injured.
The government has described this movement in PoK as divisive, while the People’s Action Committee says that their demands are legitimate. Questions are being raised as to what are those demands due to which unrest has once again erupted in Pakistan occupied Kashmir.
Smoldering protests in PoK
The script of the simmering protests in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) was written nine months ago. In September 2025, the People’s Action Committee held a protest to press for several of its demands. This protest continued for about a week. The main demand of the committee was that under the delimitation process, 12 seats reserved for Kashmiris coming from outside in the PoK Assembly should be abolished.
At that time there was an agreement between the government and the People’s Action Committee, in which a proposal was agreed upon. But, for the next nine months the government did not take any concrete steps in this direction. Now elections have been announced in PoK.
As soon as the elections were announced, the members of the People’s Action Committee came out against the government. The committee had prepared to hold protests across PoK on June 9, but before this could happen, the Pakistan government banned the committee.
Most of the members of the committee have also been banned under the Terrorism Act. The government is trying to completely suppress the protests so that an atmosphere of anti-incumbency is not created against it.
People’s Action Committee says that the protests will continue until the reservation for 12 posts is ended. Protests against the government will continue without violence.
PM said- Preparation to divide into two parts
Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, the administrative head of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Prime Minister of PoK, has issued a statement regarding the protests. According to Faisal Mumtaz, the People’s Action Committee is preparing to divide PoK into two parts. The proposed demonstration on June 9 is just an excuse.
Faisal Mumtaz says that according to the intelligence input received, the members of the People’s Action Committee will spread violence and sabotage in the coming days. In view of this, the committee has been banned.
Faisal Mumtaz says that if the committee members are ready to talk to the government, then they can talk. He further said that the objective of the committee is to instigate the people here against the government.
