Vaibhav Suryavanshi broke Chris Gayle’s record and while praising him, Gayle called him ‘New Six Machine’

West Indies cricket icon Chris Gayle praised the promising 15-year-old India and Rajasthan Royals (RR) star for his brilliant inning of 97 runs in 29 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) eliminator. This teenager left ‘Universe Boss’ behind in terms of hitting most sixes in an IPL edition.

Suryavanshi saved his best for the knockout, and thoroughly defeated a smart, in-form SRH bowling line-up, hitting five fours and 12 sixes in 29 balls to score a brilliant 97 runs at a strike rate of over 334. He surpassed Gayle’s 59 sixes in IPL 2012 and has 65 sixes this season, which is the most so far in any T20 tournament.

Posting on Instagram, Gayle said, “Brilliant @Vaibhav_Sooryavanshi09, a new six machine @iplt20.”

He also praised Suryavanshi as he missed the fastest IPL century by 29 balls, another record that Gayle holds. He said that even though Suryavanshi was “unlucky”, he would “definitely get there.”

This season, Suryavanshi has scored 680 runs in 15 innings at an average of 45.33 and a strike rate of 242.85, including one century and four fifties, with a best score of 103. He faced 280 balls and hit 55 fours and 65 sixes. His boundary shot ratio on the ball is 2.3, and six on the ball ratio is 4.3. According to Cricviz, this season, Suryavanshi has scored 88.9 percent of his runs from fours and sixes, while Andre Russell has scored 85.5 percent of his 510 runs from boundaries for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2019 IPL. Suryavanshi has also equaled Gayle in terms of hitting more than 10 sixes in an IPL innings, a total of four times. Three of these occasions have come this season, making him the first batsman to hit more than 10 sixes in three IPL innings in a season.
