London. In the second semi-final of Unity Cup 2026, the Indian football team suffered a 0-2 defeat against Jamaica on Wednesday. Jamaica’s A Courtney Clarke and Kaheem Dixon scored goals in the match played at The Valley Stadium.

With this win, Jamaica secured a place in the final, where it will face Nigeria. Nigeria had earlier defeated Zimbabwe 2–0 in the semi-final. The Indian team will now face Zimbabwe in the third place match on May 30.

The match was special for Indian players

Many players made important achievements for India in this match. Naufal PN and Ricky Shabong made their debut for the senior national team, while Edmund Lalrindika got a chance in the starting eleven for the first time.

India was playing an international match on British soil for the first time since 2002, but the team could not find the rhythm from the beginning of the match.

Jamaica made a sharp counterattack in the eighth minute of the match. Indian goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu made a brilliant save first, but the Indian defense could not clear the ball completely. Courtney Clarke took possession of the loose ball and sent the ball into the upper corner of the goal post with a brilliant shot.

Jamaica, which is ranked 71st in the FIFA rankings, continued its aggressive play after this. In the 17th minute, Kaheem Dixon had a chance to double the lead, but Gurpreet made excellent saves to keep India in the match.

India showed some better passing in the last part of the first half, but the team’s shortcomings were clearly visible in the last third. Ryan Williams, Lalianzuala Chhangte and Edmund Lalrindika failed to make an impact.

India tried to make a comeback in the second half

After half time the Indian team looked more aggressive. India got a great opportunity to equalize in the 53rd minute, when Roshan passed to Rahim Ali, taking advantage of Jamaica’s defense and goalkeeper’s mistake. However, Rahim Ali was found offside and Chhangte’s goal was disallowed.

After this, India intensified its efforts to make a comeback in the match. Coach Khalid Jamil’s team, playing on a high line, put pressure on Jamaica and took control of the match for some time.

Kaheem Dixon ended India’s hopes

Just when India seemed to be heading towards a comeback, in the 78th minute Kaheem Dixon displayed brilliant individual skill and scored the second goal of the match. He made a brilliant move from outside the box, outwitted Akash Mishra and took the ball past Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and into the goal. After the second goal, the rhythm of the Indian team was broken and Jamaica finished the match comfortably and secured a place in the final.
