America-Iran amid ongoing war in the Middle East A compromise does not seem to be happening, due to which there are chances of war breaking out once again. Earlier, talks were held between the two countries in Pakistan which failed, after which now the same situation is being seen in Karat. Amid the ongoing talks in Qatar, diplomatic tension between the two countries seems to be increasing instead of decreasing.

America and Iran are constantly trying to put pressure on each other through press briefings, TV interviews and social media. There are 5 major disputes between the two countries, on which the final agreement is hanging in the balance due to lack of consensus. Let us tell you which are those 5 controversies.

1. Uranium reserves

The conflict between America and Iran over Iran’s rich uranium reserves is continuously deepening. US President Donald Trump recently said that Iran’s highly enriched uranium, which he described as nuclear dust, should either be handed over to the US or destroyed inside Iran under international supervision. However, Iran has made it clear that it is not going to back down from its right to enrich uranium.

Iranian leader Ibrahim Azizi said that Tehran will not compromise with its red line at any cost. He said “It is clear that Trump, seeking a way out of this strategic impasse, is alternating between making threats and appealing for compromise.”

2. Control over Hormuz

The security and control system of the Strait of Hormuz has also become a major dispute in the talks. Iranian state media had claimed that under a proposed framework, Iran and Oman would jointly monitor this sea route and handle toll operations. However, America rejected this report calling it completely fabricated. President Trump reiterated that the Strait of Hormuz will remain free from any kind of control in any future agreement.

3. Seized Iranian assets

Iran has also taken a tough stance regarding its assets worth billions of dollars frozen abroad. According to Iranian media reports, Tehran wants access to approximately $24 billion of funds and has demanded that some of the funds be released at the initial stage of the talks.

But the Trump administration does not seem ready to bow down on this issue. Trump clearly said, “We have control over the money that they claim as their own. We will maintain our control over that money. When they behave properly and do the right thing, then we will give them their money back.”

4. Ban on Iran

One of Iran’s biggest demands includes comprehensive relief from US economic sanctions. Iran wants to be allowed to export oil without any restrictions and to reconnect with global financial markets. However, the US administration has made it clear that no relief in sanctions will be given before the final agreement. Trump said, “We are not talking about easing sanctions or giving money. No sanctions, no money, no anything else.”

5. Abraham Accords

The most shocking turn during the talks came when Trump linked the US-Iran peace agreement to the expansion of the Abraham Accords. In a televised cabinet briefing, Trump said that regional countries should give formal recognition to Israel. He told that he has discussed this issue with Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “If they don’t sign the deal, I’m not sure we should do it,” Trump warned.
