Ecuador’s FIFA World Cup 2026 squad is expected to feature several prominent names from across European football.
The team could emerge as one of the dark horses when the tournament kicks off across the United States, Canada, and Mexico next summer.
Securing qualification for World Cup 2026 marks only the second time in history that Ecuador have reached back-to-back World Cups. With the talent at their disposal, they might just have enough firepower to surprise a few of the tournament’s heavyweights.
Though not among the favourites, Ecuador could quietly assemble one of the most intriguing and balanced squads heading into the competition.
Their World Cup qualification campaign was particularly impressive. Ecuador lost just two games—both away fixtures against Argentina and Brazil—while recording eight wins and eight draws in tightly contested matches.
During CONMEBOL’s 18-match qualification campaign, the team managed 14 goals and conceded only five, amassing an impressive 29 points—averaging over two points per goal scored.
Under head coach Sebastian Beccacece, Ecuador have become a side that is extremely difficult to beat. In a 48-team tournament format, that level of resilience could carry them through the group stage and potentially see them advance further via penalty shootouts.
Despite their collective strength, there are several standout individuals within Beccacece’s well-drilled unit. His ability to blend individual flair with tactical discipline has been a major factor in Ecuador’s success.

Ecuador have been drawn into Group E for the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Head coach Sebastian Beccacece, who never played professional football, began his career as an assistant to Jorge Sampaoli before taking charge of Universidad de Chile in 2016. Since then, he has managed Defensa y Justicia across three different stints, served as Argentina’s assistant manager, and led Independiente, Racing Club, and Elche. He took over as Ecuador’s head coach in August 2024.
Since assuming the role, Beccacece has impressed by guiding Ecuador to second place in CONMEBOL’s qualification standings, finishing behind only Argentina.
Moises Caicedo, one of the most expensive players in Premier League history, continues to justify his price tag with consistently commanding performances in midfield. His dynamic play and defensive awareness make him an integral part of Ecuador’s game plan.
For Ecuador to succeed at the World Cup, they will rely heavily on the defensive strength that carried them through qualifying, with Caicedo providing a vital shield in front of the back line.
