Following the CBSE Class 12 results, a record number of students have applied for scanned copies of their answer sheets and for re-evaluation this year.

Every year, the release of CBSE Board results brings a mix of both joy and anxiety to the homes of lakhs of students. While some celebrate receiving good grades, others are left perplexed upon seeing their mark sheets, wondering how they ended up with such low scores. This year, a similar scenario is unfolding. However, a significant shift is clearly evident in 2026: a record number of students have requested re-verification and scanned copies of their answer books.

CBSE has now issued a new update regarding the answer book process, which has captured the attention of both students and parents. According to the Board’s latest data, as of 6:00 PM on May 26, 2026, a total of 404,319 students have applied for scanned copies of their evaluated answer sheets. The most striking statistic is that these students have requested a combined total of 1,131,961 answer books. This indicates that individual students have expressed a desire to review not just a single subject’s answer sheet, but those of multiple subjects.

Why is Anxiety Rising Among Students?

Following the release of results, many students feel that they have received scores lower than their expectations. Some students are convinced that their answer sheets were not evaluated properly, while others suspect errors in the totaling of marks. This is the primary reason why a large number of students decided to request access to their answer sheets this time around.

According to CBSE, 898,214 answer books have already been made available to students digitally. The remaining pending requests are scheduled to be fulfilled by May 27, 2026. The Board states that efforts are being made to expedite the entire process so that students do not have to endure a prolonged wait.

New Portal to Open by May 29

CBSE has announced that the application portal for the verification and re-evaluation of answer books is expected to go live by May 29, 2026. This means that students who feel they have been awarded fewer marks than deserved in their answer sheets, or suspect an error has occurred, will soon be able to apply for a re-examination. This facility provided by the Board is considered highly significant for students, as it offers them the opportunity to view their answer sheets and seek corrections in the event of any errors.

Applications Surge Manifold Compared to Last Year

CBSE statistics reveal a major shift this time around. In 2025, approximately 131,000 students applied for marks verification and re-checking. At that time, roughly 282,000 answer sheets were challenged. However, the situation has changed completely in 2026. This time, more than 400,000 students have requested scanned copies of 1.13 million answer books. This figure represents a manifold increase compared to the previous year.

Education experts believe that anxiety regarding marks is steadily rising among students. In today’s competitive environment, a difference of even a few marks can significantly impact college admissions and future career prospects. This is why students have become more vigilant than ever regarding their academic scores.

Parents’ Concerns Also on the Rise

It is not just the students; parents, too, are keeping a close watch on this process. Many parents firmly believe that if a student has put in the hard work, they deserve to receive a fair and accurate result. Consequently, people have now begun to take the processes of verification and re-evaluation with the utmost seriousness.
