New Delhi. In a major action against drug smuggling, the Indian Coast Guard and Gujarat ATS team have seized about 115 kg of cocaine from the coast of Gujarat. The value of this cocaine, recovered in a joint operation near Mundra coast on the night of 25-26 May 2026, in the international market is estimated to be around Rs 1,150 crore. Three people have been arrested and are being interrogated. This is a huge success under the Drug Free India campaign.
Giving information about this entire operation, Gujarat DGP Dr. KLN Rao said that on the night of 25-26 May, the Indian Coast Guard and Gujarat ATS caught a container ship which was standing anchored about five nautical miles away from the Mundra coast. The Coast Guard team was keeping an eye on this container ship from a distance for several hours. Meanwhile, the officials noticed that some suspicious bags were being thrown from the ship into the sea. After this, a joint team of Coast Guard and ATS surrounded the ship. ICG’s intercept boat recovered five bags of contraband that were thrown into the sea in low visibility conditions.
There were two foreign nationals present on the ship, out of which a smuggler named Jumma Nasir Umar, a resident of Nigeria, has been arrested. While one had jumped into the sea and is being searched. This cocaine was to be delivered to two foreign nationals in Delhi. Clavin Chukwuma and Byaruhanga James, both resident in Delhi, have also been arrested. This is the 15th joint action against drugs in the last five years. According to the Coast Guard, this success strengthens our resolve towards maritime security and drug-free India.
