Knews Desk- Giving great relief to domestic LPG consumers, the Central Government has made important changes in the gas supply and distribution rules. The government has notified the ‘Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Amendment Order 2026’ on 25 May 2026. The purpose of the new rules is to provide convenience to those who have taken or are preparing to take Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connection.

What are the rules?

Under the new rule, now consumers taking PNG connection will not have to surrender their domestic LPG connection forever. Earlier, this problem was arising in many places that after getting the PNG facility, people had to switch off the LPG connection, but now the government has relaxed this rule. With this, consumers will be able to use both the facilities as and when needed.

The government believes that with this decision people will get more options and convenience in gas supply. Besides, the pressure on demand for LPG cylinders will also reduce. In fact, amidst the increasing tension and energy crisis in the Middle East, there is increased concern regarding the supply and waiting of LPG cylinders in the country. In such a situation, the government is continuously encouraging people to adopt PNG.

Recently, the Central Government had directed the gas companies to take action on the applications for PNG connection within 7 days. Now through the new amendment, the government is taking steps towards providing more facilities to PNG consumers. It is believed that with this, the use of PNG can increase rapidly in urban areas and the pressure on the domestic gas distribution system will be reduced.
