AC Milan have officially dismissed head coach Massimiliano Allegri, sporting director Igli Tare, CEO Giorgio Furlani, and technical director Geoffrey Moncada in a strongly worded statement citing their ‘unequivocal failure.’
The Rossoneri entered the final round of the Serie A season needing just one point to secure a top-four finish and a Champions League berth, holding a two-point lead and a superior head-to-head record over Como.
However, they squandered a 1-0 advantage and suffered a 2-1 home defeat to a Cagliari side that had nothing to play for.
Several reports earlier in the day suggested a ‘Monday Night Massacre’ was imminent at Milan, with RedBird Capital’s owner Gerry Cardinale planning a sweeping overhaul, retaining only special advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
That speculation was confirmed when the club released an official statement announcing the dismissal of all four key figures at once.
“After the disappointment of last year, the ownership’s mandate for the club was to return to the Champions League and to build a foundation for consistent success at the top of Serie A.
“For most of this season, we were among the top two teams in Serie A and had a credible chance of competing for the Scudetto. However, the final stretch was completely inconsistent with earlier performances, and last night’s disappointing defeat in the final match turned the season into an unequivocal failure.
“It is now time for change and a complete restructuring of the football operations. Effective immediately, CEO Giorgio Furlani, Sporting Director Igli Tare, Head Coach Massimiliano Allegri, and Technical Director Geoffrey Moncada are relieved of their duties. We thank each of them for their commitment and service to AC Milan during their respective tenures.
“Further announcements regarding new appointments will follow soon – with the goal of being fully prepared for the upcoming season.”
During the 2025–26 campaign, Allegri managed 42 competitive fixtures, delivering 22 wins, 10 draws, and 10 losses.
Cardinale and Ibrahimovic will now collaborate to design a new leadership and technical structure for the club, including the appointment of a new coach, sporting director, and CEO.
Furlani, who joined Milan’s board of directors in 2019 and became CEO in 2022 representing former owners Elliott Management, is departing following Cardinale’s refinancing of the vendor loan with Elliott, making his role redundant.
Tare, who arrived only last summer alongside Allegri, has seen his tenure come to an abrupt end within a year.
Moncada, who first joined as chief scout in 2018 before being promoted to technical director in 2023, has also been released as part of the sweeping changes.
