New Delhi: The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has asked electricity distribution companies and other authorities to complete by May 31 the inspection and commissioning of rooftop solar projects that are already installed, to ensure that they remain exempt from the mandatory use of domestically listed solar cells to be implemented June 1.
In an advisory issued on May 21, seen by ET, the ministry said it has received representations highlighting delays in inspection and issuance of commissioning certificates by discoms and other authorities, which could push projects beyond the May 31 deadline and make them non-compliant with the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM-II) requirements.
The list works like a non-tariff barrier and has been successful so far in supporting domestic solar modules manufacturing.
Under the existing rules, net-metering and open access RE projects commissioned before June 1, 2026, are exempt from sourcing solar cells from ALMM List-II, although they are required to use modules enlisted under List-I.
