FourFourTwo columnist and TNT Sports presenter Jules Breach shares why covering the Premier League this season has been incredibly enjoyable – and not just for fans of Arsenal and Manchester City.
The world’s most competitive league deserves a title race of equal intensity, and this season, the Premier League’s top two have produced just that. Since Arsenal and Manchester City emerged as the main contenders, it’s been a gripping and dramatic head-to-head contest. This doesn’t diminish Liverpool’s dominance last season when they secured the title with minimal pressure, but the current campaign’s fierce competition has delivered unmatched excitement.
Arsenal have held the top spot since October, rightfully so as the most consistent and well-balanced side. However, Mikel Arteta’s team allowed City back into contention, and with Pep Guardiola already boasting six Premier League titles, it’s natural that many started to sense City’s trademark late surge could once again deny the Gunners.
Manchester City’s matchday hospitality in the Level 2 South West Corner includes access to the exclusive Manager’s Corner Lounge and Bar, with premium dining, complimentary tea and coffee during half-time and full-time, as well as a matchday programme. Car parking (one per four guests) adds further comfort to this premium experience.
Matches that might normally seem routine have become crucial. In February, Arsenal faced bottom-placed Wolves expecting an easy win, only to squander a two-goal advantage by conceding in stoppage time, losing two valuable points. Such late-game lapses highlight the intense pressure that defines this title race. Just ten days later, City built an early lead at Elland Road but had to fight hard to hold off a spirited Leeds side – a team newly promoted from the Championship. Though City claimed all three points, the narrow win reflected how every fixture now carries enormous weight.
Each match, every point, and every weekend feels monumental. There have already been numerous season-defining moments – none more significant than Max Dowman’s late heroics for Arsenal against Everton. At just 16 years and 73 days old, Dowman became the youngest scorer in Premier League history, securing three vital points for Arsenal just before City were held to a 1-1 draw at West Ham.
Arsenal have faced criticism for their reliance on set-pieces and time management tactics, but if Arteta can guide them to their first league title in 22 years, few will question the methods. Beyond that, this Arsenal side represents years of steady evolution under Arteta, positioning them perfectly for this decisive run-in. Yet the fact remains that since the 2021-22 season, Arsenal have picked up fewer points than City in the final months, and Pep’s proven track record in such situations continues to unsettle Gunners fans while giving City supporters renewed optimism. Guardiola’s relaxed and often humorous demeanour in press interactions has only made the campaign more entertaining.
As the final weeks approach, supporters are anxiously hoping for slip-ups from their rivals, giving every match an added sense of anticipation. Fans from other clubs also have their favourites for the title, ensuring that the race remains a shared national spectacle – even if the emotional stakes vary.
The relegation battle has been equally captivating. Tottenham have been pulled into the struggle following a turbulent season marred by injuries and inconsistent performances. The fight to avoid finishing 18th could go right down to the final day, with West Ham, Nottingham Forest, Spurs, and Leeds all battling to find rhythm and belief. Meanwhile, the contest for European qualification has featured unexpected challengers – Brentford and Everton have both exceeded expectations and could still clinch continental football next season.
As we near the end of the 2025-26 season, more twists and surprises are certain. The Premier League’s unpredictability ensures that no outcome can ever be taken for granted – that’s exactly why it continues to be the best league in the world.
