New Delhi: Boeing 737-800 aircraft of Air India Express became victim of an accident on the night of 15 May in Muscat, the capital of Oman. The plane was scheduled to take off from Muscat to Kannur. During takeoff the aircraft veered off the runway and collided with the edge lights.

Lights broken, nose gear damaged   

According to media reports, several runway lights were broken due to the collision. The nose gear of the aircraft was also damaged. After hearing a loud noise in the cockpit, the pilots immediately aborted the takeoff.

But by then the plane had suffered a lot of damage. The incident occurred at around 9.10 pm on Runway 26L of Muscat Airport. The aircraft had entered from taxiway E7.

hydraulic leaks and tire punctures   

In the accident, the hydraulic system of the plane leaked and the tires also got punctured. According to sources, foreign objects entered the engine, due to which both the engines were badly affected. Considering the situation, all the passengers and crew were deboarded from the plane on the runway itself. After this he was taken back to the terminal.

Alternative arrangements for passengers   

Air India Express arranged for another flight to send the affected passengers to Kannur. Hotel accommodation was also arranged for needy passengers.

The next day, passengers were flown to Kannur on another Boeing 737-800. But the flight departed with a delay of more than 13 hours. After the accident, the plane remained parked at Muscat Airport for several days.

Investigation started, airline is cooperating   

Oman’s Air Accidents Investigation Sector has started investigation considering the matter as an accident. Air India Express spokesperson has confirmed the incident. He said the company is fully cooperating with the Oman Transport Safety Bureau in the investigation. If necessary, further information will be released by the concerned authorities.
