A new controversy has arisen regarding a mosque and a cemetery in Malihabad area of ​​Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. The Pasi community has claimed that the place which is currently being described as a mosque and graveyard was actually the historical fort of the 11th century Nagvanshi ruler Maharaja Rajpasi Raja Kansa. People of the society say that earlier worship was done at this place, but now namaz is being offered here.

This issue has now started taking political and social color also. Lakhan Army chief and Pasi community leader Suraj Paswan has sent an application to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath seeking intervention in the matter. Also a warning has been given that if Namaz is offered continuously here then the people of Pasi community will recite Hanuman Chalisa there.

What action did the police take after the protests?

Protests were seen in the area after Friday prayers. Seeing the situation, the police and administration came on alert mode. To maintain law and order, barricading was done in the entire area and heavy police force was deployed.

After the demonstration, the police took action and registered a case against 15 members of Lakhan Army. After this action the controversy has deepened further. Describing the police action as one-sided, Lakhan Army has warned of a state-wide agitation.

What allegations did Suraj Pasi make against the police?

Lakhan Army chief Suraj Pasi has strongly opposed the action of UP Police. He alleged that the police is working in favor of foreign invaders. Suraj Pasi clearly said that if the cases registered are not withdrawn then a big movement will be started in the entire state.

What is the whole controversy?

The center of the entire controversy is the historical site of Malihabad, regarding which the Pasi community is presenting its claim. The society says that this site was the fort of King Kansa, which was converted into a mosque and graveyard with time. To strengthen its claim, the Pasi community has cited the old English Gazetteer. According to the society, it is mentioned in the gazetteer that King Kansa had killed two generals of the foreign invader Salar Masood Ghazi in this area.

It has also been claimed to be recorded in historical documents that two generals of Salar Masood, Sayyid Hatim and Khatim, were defeated in the battle by Rajpasi king Kansa around Kansmondi area. In local traditions, King Kansa is seen as a warrior who resisted foreign invaders in the Awadh region.

What did Maulana Sufian say?

Amid increasing controversy, the statement of Maulana Sufiyan has also come to light. He said, “Calling a mosque a temple has become a trend these days.” Referring to Bhojshala of Sambhal and Madhya Pradesh, he said that now similar claims are being made in Malihabad also.
