Leo Messi was taken off during Inter Miami's Major League Soccer clash against the Philadelphia Union on Sunday evening after appearing to suffer an injury concern.
The Argentine superstar, known for rarely leaving the pitch even when his team holds a comfortable lead, was substituted during a dramatic 10-goal contest between the two Eastern Conference sides in Miami.
Messi was seen clutching the back of his leg right after taking a free-kick and quickly signalled to the bench for a substitution. Inter Miami head coach Guillermo Hoyos responded immediately, replacing him soon after the incident.
With the FIFA World Cup just a few weeks away, both Argentina supporters and football fans around the world will anxiously await updates on Messi’s condition. While early signs suggest the move may have been precautionary, his fitness will be closely monitored in the coming days.
