The policy is designed to prepare Thai youth for the modern economy by building digital human capital. It seeks to shift the perception of gaming, positioning it as a platform for skills development and a gateway into the global creative industry.

The initiative will be rolled out in phases. First, the government will integrate esports into TO BE NUMBER ONE, Thailand’s major youth empowerment program, in schools across the country. This first phase provides a structured space for students to develop four key skills: technology proficiency, analytical thinking, teamwork and self-management, according to Pattaya Mail.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Patdarasm Thongsaluaykorn noted that the Ministry of Education is working to upgrade learning methods, linking digital skills, creativity, and the future economy in a concrete way.

Through these clubs, the program will also identify and select student representatives to compete in esports tournaments at the school, national, and international levels.

Once the initial phases are successfully implemented, the government plans to expand the initiative into a full, comprehensive learning curriculum.

“The government does not view esports only as entertainment,” Patdarasm said, as quoted by Nation Thailand. “It sees esports as a creative industry with enormous economic value, capable of generating income and career opportunities for Thai youth.”

The policy views the rapidly growing esports sector as a viable labor market capable of providing stable, future-proof careers for the next generation of Thai workers.
