New Delhi. The world of cricket once again seems to be standing on the threshold of big changes. (International Cricket Council) The International Cricket Council (ICC) may consider amendments to many important rules of the game in the coming days, which may change the format of Test, ODI and T20 cricket to a great extent. The discussion in the cricket world regarding this proposed change has intensified and everyone’s eyes from players to administrators are now fixed on the ICC Board meeting to be held in Ahmedabad on 30 May 2026.
According to sources, the biggest and most discussed proposal in this ICC meeting is to Test cricket. It has been suggested that if floodlights have to be used during the match due to poor lighting or weather, then with the consent of both the teams, the pink ball can be used in place of the red ball. If this rule is implemented, it will be considered a historic change in the traditional format of Test cricket, where it will be possible to use two different balls in the same match.
Apart from this, a new proposal has also come forward regarding ODI cricket. Under this, the head coach can now be allowed to go to the field and have direct strategic talks with the players during the drinks break. Till now this facility is limited only to substitute players, but with the new rule the role of team management can become more active.
ICC is considering another change to make T20 cricket more fast and exciting. According to the proposal, the 20-minute break between innings can be reduced to 15 minutes. With this, players will have to make strategies in less time and the pace of the match will become more fast.
Not only this, ICC is also preparing to take strict action regarding the suspicious action of bowlers i.e. ‘chucking’. The proposal is to allow on-field umpires to use Hawk-Eye data, making it possible to scrutinize bowling actions during the match itself. This can help in reducing long standing disputes and delays to a great extent.

All these proposals have already been discussed in the virtual meeting of the ICC Chief Executive Committee (CEC), in which ICC Cricket Committee Chairman and former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly was also present. Now all eyes are on the Ahmedabad meeting, where a final decision on these changes can be taken. If these proposals are approved, the entire form of cricket can enter a new era from 1 October 2026.
