Knews Desk– Now along with petrol and diesel, there will be strict monitoring of CNG, LNG, LPG and hydrogen dispensers in the country. In view of the increasing use of clean fuels, the Central Government has made major changes in the Legal Metrology rules. The government has decided to make the supply and weighing system of these fuels more transparent through a new amendment.

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has amended the Legal Metrology (Government Recognized Testing Centres) Rules, 2013. Under this, now government recognized private testing centers i.e. GATC will also be able to test and re-verify CNG, LNG, LPG and hydrogen dispensers. Earlier this system was limited in scope.

The government says the move is aimed at strengthening the weighing and weighing system in the country and ensuring consumers get the right amount of fuel. Following the new rules, the number of devices to be verified by GATC has increased from 18 to 23. This will increase the availability of verification services across the country and speed up the process.

Under the new rules, a fee of Rs 5,000 per nozzle has been fixed for verification of petrol and diesel dispensers. Whereas for CNG, LNG, LPG and Hydrogen dispenser, the fee per nozzle has been kept at Rs 10,000. The government believes that with the increasing use of clean energy, accurate measurement and monitoring of these fuels has become extremely important.

According to experts, the use of CNG, LNG and hydrogen based fuels will increase rapidly in India in the coming years. In such a situation, it is considered necessary to ensure transparency and security of the fuel distribution system. This step of the government is being considered a big step towards strengthening the clean energy infrastructure.
