A Rare Repeat: FC Bayern Recreate a Historic DFB-Pokal Achievement

It is an occurrence seen only once before: FC Bayern Munich have matched a unique record in the DFB-Pokal.

FC Bayern lifted the DFB Cup for the 21st time in the club’s illustrious history after defeating VfB Stuttgart in the final. Throughout their cup run, the German giants impressed with a remarkable level of attacking efficiency.

Across all rounds leading to the title, Bayern netted 17 goals — and all of them came from just three players, the in-form attacking trio of Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Luis Díaz.

Kane scored ten of these goals, reaffirming his role as Bayern’s key man in their 3–0 victory over VfB Stuttgart in the final. Olise added two, while Díaz contributed three, bringing the total to 15 goals.

The remaining two goals, completing the tally of 17, came during the round of 16 clash against Union Berlin. On that occasion, Ilyas Ansah and Diogo Leite each scored own goals, helping Bayern secure a 3–2 win.

Such a statistic is a true rarity in DFB-Pokal history. Only once before has such a limited group of scorers been sufficient to win the title. In the 1968/69 season, Bayern triumphed with goals from only two players — club legend Gerd Müller, who netted seven times, and Rainer Ohlhauser, who scored once.

Harry Kane and Michael Olise are both being tipped as potential Ballon d'Or nominees.

The Bayern Munich front three have not only impressed in the DFB-Pokal but have been exceptional across all competitions this season. Kane has amassed 68 goal contributions (61 goals and 7 assists) in 51 appearances. Olise follows closely with 53 (22 goals and 31 assists), while Díaz has produced 49 direct goal involvements (26 goals and 23 assists) across all tournaments.

Both Kane and Olise have emerged as strong Ballon d'Or contenders — a sentiment echoed by VfB Stuttgart striker Deniz Undav. After the final, he remarked, “I have to admit, I’m leaning a bit more towards Olise.” Nevertheless, he praised both players before turning his admiration towards Kane: “I’d love to have that kind of freedom sometimes. You simply can’t give him any space. He finishes brilliantly with both feet, has that killer instinct, and always finds himself in the right place. The passes he makes to Olise or Díaz are superb. That’s what being world-class looks like.”

Following Bayern’s cup success, honorary president Uli Hoeneß told ARD, “He’s the best signing we’ve ever made.” The English forward joined Munich from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023 for a reported fee of around €100 million. Since then, he has won two Bundesliga titles, the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup, and now the DFB Cup — Bayern’s first domestic cup victory since 2020.

Here’s a concise summary of FC Bayern’s DFB-Pokal goalscorers this season.
