New Delhi: India has postponed two major international events that were scheduled to take place in New Delhi over the coming weeks due to the “evolving health situation in parts of Africa”. The events are the fourth India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS-IV), which was slated to be held from May 28 to 31, and the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) Summit, planned for June 1.
Several African nations have recorded cases of the deadly Ebola virus, with the most recent infections reported in South Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
India postpones two major global summitsAccording to official statements, the decision was taken after consultations aimed at ensuring the participation of all stakeholders and leaders from African nations.
“Following these consultations, the two sides agreed that it would be advisable to convene the Fourth India-Africa Forum Summit at a later date,” it said. Following the postponement of the India-Africa Forum Summit, authorities also decided to reschedule the IBCA Summit.
The Ministry said the inaugural International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) Summit was originally planned for June 1, 2026, in New Delhi. The event was scheduled alongside the Fourth India–Africa Forum Summit (IAFS-IV) because many African nations are home to big cat species and play a key role in international conservation, ecological sustainability and biodiversity protection initiatives.
The statement further noted that after consultations with the Chairperson of the African Union and the African Union Commission, a decision was taken to postpone the Fourth India–Africa Forum Summit. As a result, authorities have also decided to defer the IBCA Summit to a later date to facilitate wider and more meaningful participation from all range countries, including those from Africa.
New dates not announcedOfficials said that holding the events at a later date would allow broader representation and smoother participation from member countries.
No revised schedule has been announced so far.
The India-Africa Forum Summit is considered an important platform for strengthening diplomatic, economic and developmental ties between India and African nations. Meanwhile, the International Big Cat Alliance focuses on cooperation in wildlife conservation, biodiversity protection and the preservation of big cat species across participating countries.
