Eid-ul-Adha 2026: This year, the holy festival of Bakrid (Eid ul-Azha) will be celebrated in India on 28 May. This festival is considered a symbol of the test of Hazrat Ibrahim and his faith in Allah. This festival is related to a historical field. This ground is located in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The name of this ground is Meena. This ground is between the hills of Mecca. The importance of this ground is greater because according to the beliefs of Islam, the devil who diverted Hazrat Ibrahim from the path of Allah was defeated here. Even today, that devil is punished in this ground. Let us know this whole story.
According to Islamic beliefs, to test the faith and loyalty of Hazrat Ibrahim, Allah had asked for the sacrifice of his most beloved thing, his only son Hazrat Ismail. Since Hazrat Ibrahim had complete faith and belief in Allah, he agreed to sacrifice his son in the path of Allah. After this, he started going towards Meena Maidan of Mecca with his son. Then Iblis (Satan) tried to stop them on the way.
Satan tried to mislead
Satan aroused emotions in the mind of Hazrat Ibrahim and tried to mislead him. The devil said how can you sacrifice your son. This is the only support in your old age, so go back, but Hazrat Ibrahim remained firm on his faith in Allah. Hazrat Ibrahim picked up pebbles and chased away the devil, but the devil still tried to mislead him on three different paths, but every time Hazrat Ibrahim chased him away.
After this, as soon as he was about to put the knife on his son's neck, Allah ordered his angels to put a sheep (sheep or goat) in place of Hazrat Ismail. This saved Hazrat Ismail's life and Hazrat Ibrahim's faith in Allah remained intact. Then the tradition of sacrifice on Bakrid started from here.
Ali al-Jamrat: Even today people punish the devil
Even today people throw stones at the devil in the grounds of Meena. This tradition or ritual is performed during Haj pilgrimage. Its name is Ali al-Jamarat, i.e. stoning the devil. The three pillars buried in the grounds of Meena are called Jamarat. These three pillars are buried at the same three places where Satan tried to mislead Hazrat Ibrahim. Pilgrims performing Hajj shower pebbles on these pillars.
