Marine Russo, 41, and former police officer Mark Bellabriga, 55, are accused of blindfolding and abandoning 5-year-old Barthelemy and 3-year-old Zachary. It is being described as a ‘strange treasure hunt’. After leaving both her sons, Marine Rousseau returned home with her boyfriend. At the same time, both the children were found crying and screaming alone on a village road on Tuesday (May 19, 2026).

The couple was found 100 miles away from the forest

Based on information from the two children, Portuguese police tracked down Marine Rousseau and Bellabriga to a café near Lisbon. It was about 100 miles away. After this, on Friday (May 22, 2026), this French couple was presented in the court in handcuffs under the supervision of Portuguese police officers. During the hearing, Marine Rousseau was heard singing like an opera singer while Bellabriga shouted “I love you” in French. This moment shocked the courtroom.

Both were caught through CCTV

CCTV footage showed Portuguese officers escorting the French couple to a waiting car. According to local police, they were tracked to the terrace of a café, where Marine Rousseau and Bellabriga were sunbathing while having breakfast.

All this happened about 48 hours after two troubled children, ages 5 and 3, were found crying alone on a rural road about 125 miles away. Recently the couple was seen arriving in their Opel car with French number plates at the ‘O Vasco’ café in the town of Fatima, a 90-minute drive north of Lisbon.
