FC Bayern Munich marked a memorable evening on 23 May 2026 by defeating VfB Stuttgart 3-0 in the DFB Cup final, completing a remarkable domestic double. After a goalless and hard-fought first half, Harry Kane produced a masterful hat-trick to hand Bayern their 21st DFB Cup title and an impressive 14th domestic double in club history.

Bayern’s starting line-up featured Jonas Urbig between the posts, with Josip Stanišić, Dayot Upamecano, Jonathan Tah and Konrad Laimer forming the defensive line. Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlović anchored the midfield, supported by Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala and Luis Díaz, while Kane led the attack. In the second half, Lennart Karl, Leon Goretzka, Hiroki Ito, Raphaël Guerreiro and Tom Bischof replaced Musiala, Pavlović, Stanišić, Olise and Laimer, respectively.

Although Bayern dominated possession, Stuttgart started brightly. Deniz Undav forced an early save from Urbig, and Angelo Stiller sent a shot over the bar. Maximilian Mittelstädt struck the side-netting before seeing another attempt denied by a superb save from Urbig.

Bayern gradually gained control but faced a resilient Stuttgart defence. VfB goalkeeper Alexander Nübel kept out Díaz’s effort, while Kane had a shot blocked as both sides battled intensely in a tactical first half that ended without goals.

The breakthrough came when Olise found Kane, who slipped but soon benefited from a well-placed Kimmich free-kick. Olise delivered a precise cross that Kane met with a diving header to open the scoring. Nübel then parried a Díaz shot, and Laimer was unable to capitalise on the rebound.

Bayern doubled their lead as Kane’s initial strike hit the crossbar, but Díaz quickly regained possession and set up the England captain, who controlled smartly and turned to fire home on the spin. Olise saw another shot deflect wide before Bayern were awarded a late penalty for handball in stoppage time, which Kane converted to complete his hat-trick — only the fourth ever recorded in a DFB Cup final — sealing Bayern’s first DFB Cup triumph since 2020.

Several of Bayern’s players will now join their national teams for the 2026 World Cup before returning for pre-season training in July and the Audi Summer Tour in August.
