Celtic concluded their season in impressive fashion by securing a domestic double with a 3-1 victory over Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park. The win marked a strong finish under interim manager Martin O’Neill.
The contest was largely decided in a commanding first-half display. Daizen Maeda opened the scoring after capitalising on a long pass and delicately lifting the ball over the goalkeeper. Arne Engels soon extended the advantage with a superb long-range strike that left the Dunfermline keeper helpless.
Dunfermline showed greater resistance after the interval. Substitute Alfons Amade came close to pulling one back, while Liam Scales made an important goal-line clearance earlier in the half to preserve Celtic’s lead.
Celtic’s depth proved decisive once again as Kelechi Iheanacho, introduced from the bench, sealed the outcome. The forward showcased his agility and composure, weaving past defenders before calmly slotting home to make it 3-0, continuing his excellent recent form.
Dunfermline managed a late consolation through Josh Cooper, who reacted quickly after a deflected effort, but it was never enough to spark a comeback.
The result delivered Celtic their 43rd Scottish Cup title and completed the domestic double, an achievement that capped a successful run under O’Neill, who could depart the post with yet another piece of silverware to his name.
