Premier League champions Arsenal have confirmed their second player exit of the summer through an official announcement. The North London club has approved a permanent transfer for goalkeeper Karl Hein to Bundesliga side Werder Bremen, furthering their squad reshaping efforts that began earlier this month with defender Jakub Kiwior’s switch to Porto.
Estonian goalkeeper departs North London
Estonian international Karl Hein will complete his permanent move to Werder Bremen in July, concluding his developmental journey with Arsenal. The 24-year-old joined the Emirates Academy in 2018 but found first-team chances limited under various managers. After spending the previous season in Germany on loan, the arrangement has now been converted into a full-time transfer.
Official statement from Arsenal
Arsenal expressed gratitude for Hein’s professionalism and dedication across both academy and senior setups through a statement released on their official website.
Confirming the finalized deal as paperwork nears completion, the club said: “We thank Karl for his contribution to the club during his time with us and wish him all the best for his next chapter with Werder Bremen.”
Ongoing North London squad overhaul
Hein’s exit continues Arsenal’s active summer reshuffle, following Jakub Kiwior’s recent permanent move to Porto. The Portuguese club activated the purchase clause from his loan deal to secure the Polish defender on a long-term basis. The agreement ensures Arsenal receive a fixed fee of €17 million (£14.5m), with potential add-ons amounting to €5 million (£4.3m) tied to performance milestones.
Arteta assessing goalkeeping reinforcements
Manager Mikel Arteta will now need to evaluate his goalkeeping options ahead of a crucial pre-season and another Premier League title challenge. Offloading fringe players allows the Spaniard to improve the club’s financial flexibility before the transfer window intensifies. Hein, meanwhile, heads to the Bundesliga aiming for consistent first-team football after managing just a single senior appearance for Arsenal.
