Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes has added another honour to his name, being crowned the Premier League Player of the Season after an outstanding individual campaign. The experienced midfielder triumphed over several Arsenal stars from the title-winning squad, while Manchester City’s talented youngster Nico O'Reilly clinched the Young Player of the Season award.

Red Devils captain makes history

For the first time in his career, Fernandes has been awarded the Premier League Player of the Season trophy, following his instrumental role in guiding United back into the UEFA Champions League. The 31-year-old creative midfielder produced a brilliant season, netting eight goals in the Premier League and equalling the single-season record of 20 assists. In doing so, the Portuguese maestro became the seventh Manchester United player to claim the honour and the first since Nemanja Vidic achieved it in 2011.

Milestone assist record achieved

Fernandes’ remarkable creative numbers saw him join the elite company of Premier League greats Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne by reaching the 20-assist mark. This recognition comes shortly after his triumph as the FWA Footballer of the Year. The Manchester United captain edged past a competitive shortlist featuring Arsenal trio David Raya, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Declan Rice, alongside Manchester City's Erling Haaland, Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White, and Brentford striker Igor Thiago.

City youngster bags youth award

On the other hand, Manchester City’s emerging star Nico O'Reilly capped a breakthrough season under Pep Guardiola by winning the Young Player of the Season award. The 21-year-old academy graduate proved his versatility and tactical intelligence, making 34 senior appearances in various roles, including left-back and central midfield. O'Reilly overcame stiff competition from fellow nominees Rayan Cherki, Eli Junior Kroupi, Mateus Fernandes, Lewis Hall, Michael Kayode, Kobbie Mainoo, and Alex Scott.

World Cup challenge ahead

O'Reilly will now shift his attention from domestic success to the international stage, having earned a call-up to Thomas Tuchel’s England World Cup squad. The young midfielder enters the global tournament in excellent form after delivering decisive performances at Wembley in both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup finals.

Meanwhile, Fernandes will turn his focus to his responsibilities with Portugal at the upcoming World Cup, while manager Michael Carrick and Manchester United prepare for a crucial transfer window to strengthen their squad for next season.
