Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has reportedly rejected a €2 billion proposal from an American investment group seeking to acquire the club, as reported by Corriere dello Sport.
According to the Italian outlet, the offer was tabled by a consortium headed by Matt Rizzetta, who serves as the President of Serie C outfit Campobasso and Napoli Basket, as well as the Founder and Managing Partner of private equity firm Underdog Global Partners.
Discussions between Napoli’s management and Rizzetta’s representatives apparently failed to produce an agreement and were brought to a halt even before entering the due diligence stage.
De Laurentiis has made it clear that he has no intention of selling Napoli. The club, which will mark its centenary in 2027, remains under his steadfast leadership as he aims to continue steering its sporting and business operations.
Corriere dello Sport reported that when contacted for comment, Rizzetta initially postponed the conversation by an hour before responding through Campobasso’s press office, stating that he had no remarks to make and was not aware of any such negotiations.
Rizzetta has also been previously linked with a possible move to purchase Reggina. However, Campobasso issued an official statement on Friday reaffirming that the Italian-American entrepreneur remains fully committed to his current club.
